The Rooftop Market at the Rosebank Mall has been voted as Joburg’s Premier market for over 15 years and attracts thousands of people every Sunday. With around 200 stores, this lively market is located in a covered parking lot with craft and world food stalls, plus live entertainment. Once a month they have a boot sale.

It was established in 1993 with the aim of formalising the hawker trade of local and international vendors. Today it is busting indoor market, brimming with gorgeous keepsakes and artefacts from all over South Africa and Africa.
What I like is the principle of items not being allowed to be your standard mass produced “ made in China” goods.

You can easily spend your entire Sunday browsing the stores, chatting to the owners, rummaging through the antiques and admiring their creativity. If your body is aching, pop into the Thai massage stand and get a good back and shoulder massage. Children can bounce on the jumping castle while parents sit on comfy benches close by and watch.

What ever you interest is, there is bound to be something that will tickle your fancy at this market.

What I like most: You can negotiate with most of the store owners. Especially the African craft section. Prices are not set, so go prepared to practise your negotiating skills.

Top Tip: Be sure to arrive hungry, walk through all the food stalls before you decide what to eat. There are so many mouth watering choices

Details: Opening times: Every Sunday – 09:00 to 16:00 | Upper Level, The Mall of Rosebank, Rosebank, Johannesburg
