The Natal Midlands must be one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa. Off the highway I always stop at Nottingham Road , this Predominantly British town is generally wet and cold and has some delightful shops and coffee stops. The town of Richmond has a beautiful old courthouse , museum with a tank and old church. On the way to Ixopo I stopped at the Monastery that was built in 1923. Now called Mariathal school it is steeped in history and the giggling children on the property welcome visitors with a big smile . She has owned this business for 15 years and brings in fabric from Congo, DRC, Senegal and other African countries. She is also a lot cheaper than other shops around her. The choices in her store are endless. The fashion district has over 100 shops in this area, making it the largest of its kind on the continent . At 109 the fashion wholesaler you can buy any sewing item needed . Da gama textiles is the only producer of Shweshwe worldwide.
